TAKE ACTION TODAY by sharing this graphic raising awareness that #WeNeedBlackTeachers and join the day of action to diversify the educator pipeline and make sure Black students see themselves represented in the teaching force so they can reach their full potential in affirming educational spaces.
Research shows Black students are 13% more likely to graduate from high school and enroll in college if they’ve had one Black teacher in elementary school and 32% more likely if they’ve had multiple. The impact is even more stark for Black boys.
Unfortunately, Black teachers are drastically underrepresented, with only 7% of educators identifying as Black.
We’re excited to partner with the Center for Black Educator Development, whose mission is to “revolutionize education by dramatically increasing the number of Black educators” on this youth-led, youth-planned campaign to raise awareness around the lack of Black educators in our schools and the need to recruit and retain more Black educators, so that all students may benefit from their presence in the classroom.
