As students head back to school and the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the need for reliable internet access for all families persists. The federal government has a new $3.2 billion program to make sure that every family has access to high-speed broadband internet. Although over four million households have enrolled, far too many eligible families still don’t know about the program and don’t know that they qualify.
The program is called the Emergency Broadband Benefit, and it gives eligible households $50 per month towards their broadband bill. They can also get $100 off a new device. The program is easy to apply for, and has a broad set of eligibility requirements to reach as many families as possible. It’s OK if you’re not a citizen, and it’s OK if you have unpaid bills—you can still qualify.
Access to the internet should be a right in our country. A hundred years ago it was electricity and landline phones. Today, it’s access to reliable, high-speed internet. We need #InternetForAll. SHARE this information and help ensure every family is connected.
